Grow Your Own Wasabi and Horseradish
Pack of 2

Here’s a great special offer for Garden Gurus viewers from Garden Express.

Save on our fabulous Grow Your Own Wasabi and Horseradish, normally valued at $25.80. For Garden Gurus viewers only $18.00, a saving of 30% off the normal R.R.P.

True Wasabi is a rare and highly prized plant, loved for its fresh, clean heat and delicate flavour. Surprisingly, it’s quite easy to grow in a cool, shady position, thriving in pots or consistently damp areas.

Horseradish — the ingredient that makes up around 80% of most commercial “Wasabi” pastes — is far tougher and grows vigorously in the veggie patch.
Both plants are incredibly productive: simply harvest what you need and leave the rest to continue growing making this a great reason to grow your own! Freshly grated real Wasabi begins losing its signature flavour and aroma within about 15 minutes, making home-grown Wasabi a true culinary treat.

Our Grow Your Own Wasabi and Horseradish Pack includes one plant each of true Wasabi and Horseradish (separately labelled) — the perfect pairing for adventurous home gardeners and food lovers alike. Grow your own fresh, authentic flavour at home, whether in a cool shady spot, damp garden bed, or large pots.

Horseradish (Armoracia rusticana) is a clumping perennial grown for its tapering fleshy root; Horseradish is now the primary ingredient in Wasabi due to the scarcity of the traditional ingredient.
Packed with vitamin C and antioxidants, it boosts immunity, fights inflammation, and supports joint health. Its digestive benefits alleviate bloating, while detoxifying properties cleanse the liver. Horseradish even boosts metabolism, aiding in weight management. Elevate your wellness with horseradish and thrive! Young leaves can be used to flavour salads and hot dishes, and nothing beats the flavour of Horseradish sauce made with fresh Horseradish roots.
Grows best in a well cultivated bed but will cope with poor soils. Tolerates damp soils.

Grown for it’s spicy root, Wasabi (Wasabia japonica) is a delicacy in many cuisines. This perennial prefers a partly shaded position and requires regular watering or planting into a wetter part of the garden.
This is the true Japanese Wasabi so both the leaves and roots of this plant are edible. The roots are grated to create the hot and spice delicacy enjoyed worldwide and the foliage and stems can be used fresh in salads.
Wasabi requires a cool shaded position in moist soils and needs regular watering, particularly during the summer months. For best results protect from direct sun and frost.

Supplied as a pack of two dormant plants, separately labelled.

Important Reminder: While we take great care in the realistic representation of our products, many variables such as climatic conditions, natural variation or manufacturing changes may affect the precise appearance of each variety. • We continue to maintain the simplest form of postage costs for the large variety of products we range, however in occasional circumstances of oversized orders and/or delivery location, the cost of freight can significantly impact delivery of an order therefore we reserve the right to refuse the order or contact the customer to discuss freight options and pricing.

Orders containing products from two different seasons (eg Rose or spring bulb pre-orders) that require separate deliveries will incur two delivery charges at the relevant rates (unless a free freight offer applies). A $5.00 Quarantine Inspection Surcharge applies in addition to the Delivery Charge for orders delivered to Tasmania, Northern Territory and Western Australia due to the increased complexity of quarantine requirements.

As quarantine inspections apply to each delivery, 2 quarantine charges will apply where orders contain products from different seasons.   *Please note that if you order large items (eg Patio, Standard or Weeping Roses, Fruit Trees) you must specify a street address for the delivery address. StarTrack Express generally do not deliver to PO Boxes or RSD addresses so your order will be held until a suitable address is obtained. In rural areas, StarTrack may deliver to physical addresses such as general stores that act as Australia Post agencies but we suggest you check with them first. Where ”Free Delivery” vouchers apply to an order, details of the voucher should be entered in the “Your message to us” field. Orders (except Pre-orders) are normally despatched within 7-14 working days from the time of ordering during busy periods. Delivery times may be extended during peak periods (typically following the release of the latest catalogue), extended public holidays, if extreme weather conditions are not suitable for live plant transport or as detailed in the product description.
Individual items may be back-ordered to avoid delaying the delivery of other items. Please allow additional delivery time for orders to Tasmania, Northern Territory and Western Australia due to quarantine restrictions.

Please note: Some orders may not be possible to parts of Australia due to quarantine and some items may carry unique delivery charges. Check full delivery policy.

Plant Type: BARE ROOTED CROWNS GENERAL CARE
General Information: Many perennial plants are supplied as bare rooted crowns. The root section may resemble a ballerinas’ skirt, or hairy leggy bits, and the crown or growing tip often resembles a mass of dead leaves or stems.
Upon receipt of your order: It is recommended that these are planted as soon after receipt as possible. If you cannot, store in a cool, well ventilated area in the original packaging. This is only suitable for a few days as the plants may die if allowed to dry out or stay too wet.
Planting: Width: Refer to the catalogue or additional information on specific varieties. Depth: A hole large enough to accommodate the root mass should be dug. With most plants, the crown of the plant (where the leaves and roots meet) should usually be planted at the soil surface. Cover the roots with soil and water the plant well. If planted too deep it can cause rotting and death to the plants. Ideally, plants can be placed into mounded beds, and this will assist with any drainage problems.  ** Asparagus and Eremurus need to be planted a good 10 cm below the soil surface.
Positioning:  Usually Full Sun to Part Shade. (Refer to the catalogue or additional information on specific varieties).
Soil: Most plants appreciate well prepared, free draining soil. Prepare soils beforehand by working through well rotted animal manure and organic matter. An application of blood and bone whilst preparing the soil is usually beneficial.
Watering: Do Not Over or Under water the plants. Most perennials appreciate adequate water during the growing period. Keep soil moist but not too wet.
Fertilising: An application of a slow release fertiliser during spring will help your plants put on a wonderful show when flowering season approaches.
Pruning: Trimming off dead flowers stems once the blooms have faded can usually encourage a second flush of flowers. During Winter many perennials become dormant; this is the ideal time to cut back to about an inch above ground level.
Tips: These plants can easily be divided after a few years. Simply dig up and divide clumps during winter then replant as soon as possible, as illustrated below.
