An unusual climbing plant, Monstera dubia (Monstera dubia) is also known as a ‘shingle plant’. This means that they prefer to grow flat against a surface rather than making their own way in life. And in fact, once established, Monstera dubia creates a beautiful interlocking pattern of intricately patterned silver and green leaves.
One of the smaller and lesser known varieties of Monstera, dubia must have something to attach itself to- a coir pole or a flat piece of timber will suffice as Monstera dubia has suckers that will attach itself to any upright surface.
Monstera are perfect for pots and indoor culture and they require a well drained soil and a brightly lit position out of direct sunlight. Preferring light humidity, Monstera appreciate regular watering, but do not let the plant become waterlogged as this will cause fungal issues and most likely death, particularly during Winter. For best results fertilise regularly with a slow release fertiliser and repot every few years using a good quality potting mix for indoor plants.
In warmer climates, these gorgeous plants will brighten up a sheltered shady position outside.
