Rhodohypoxis

Rhodohypoxis are easily grown and produce pretty 6-petalled flowers over a long period. As they are small they are very suited to containers, rockeries and at the front of a garden bed where they can be seen.

Rhodohypoxis Planting and Growing Guide

Common names: Rhodohypoxis, Rosy Posy, Rose Grass, Red Star

Botanical name: Rhodohypoxis baurii

Family name: Hypoxidaceae

Plant type:Corm

Size: 6-10cm high x 6-10cm wide.

Planting time: Autumn

Planting width: 8-10cm

Depth: 4cm.

Flowering: Late spring to late summer.

Positioning: Full sun, but will tolerate light shade particularly in warmer climates.

General information: Flowers are too short in the stem to be useful as a cut flower but can be cut off once finished to keep the plant looking at its best. Leaves die off in autumn.

Watering: Needs plenty of water during the growing season but does not like water on the foliage.  Prefers to be kept dry while dormant in winter.

Fertilising: If required, use a general purpose fertiliser. Does NOT like lime.

Soil: Likes a free draining soil that contains well rotted organic matter.

Lifting & storage: Can be lifted and divided in autumn.

Pests: None usually.

Tips:   Corms are small so mark their position if grown in the garden. Flowers look best from above so plant where they can be looked down upon.

Preferred climate zones: Cool, Temperate, Arid, Semi-arid
