We embrace technology and change in so many parts of our lives. However there is one piece of equipment, integral to our gardening that has remained unchanged for centuries. Until now …
We met with Michael Paino, a builder by trade, and former construction company owner, whose keen eye for detail and preoccupation with how things can be done better led him to reinvent a tool he used on the job site daily and that is central to all our gardening activities.
“I could not believe that the wheelbarrow, a tool that is integral to both trade work and home gardening has not been reinvented and improved. I recognised that it was time for new innovation and I wanted to be the one to drive that change.”
Next Generation Wheelbarrow Technology
Michael and his business partner Paul completely redesigned the traditional wheelbarrow from the ground up with a focus on quality and user safety. What resulted was the BucketBarrow range of wheelbarrows, built by trades professionals for use by gardeners and DIYers through to trade professionals.
But Michael and his team also added something truly unique to the BucketBarrow range, something that disrupts the way wheelbarrows are currently used. Michael explains;
“We’ve all customized wheelbarrows for the tasks we are doing on job sites and in our gardens. You end up putting different containers inside your barrow to hold various tools and materials. BucketBarrows are the first wheelbarrows with specifically designed, integrated and removable compartments. They enable you to measure, divide and manage your load knowing exactly how much material you are carrying. It eliminates the risk of overloading and ensures you can safely unload your wheelbarrow one compartment at a time. No more dangerous overloading, heavy wheelbarrow tips, two person lifts or dangerous ramps required.”
Innovation to Garden Safely
Michael was right to focus on user safety with his design. Having worked in the construction industry for many years Michael knew the statistics. In 2017-2018 manual lifting, pushing, pulling and bending were the main cause of work related injuries in Australia. He recognised what a difference new wheelbarrow innovation would make both on the job site, in the garden and around the home.
“It’s time to move on from the traditional wheelbarrow and the risks it represents. We’ve all had the experience of trying to move or empty an overloaded wheelbarrow, its dangerous and unnecessary. ‘Use the right tool for the job’ is a message I was taught as an apprentice and it’s stuck with me through the years. Our BucketBarrow is the right tool to manage and move your gardening materials and equipment safely and efficiently. It enables you to complete your gardening projects and property maintenance safer, easier and faster.”
Innovation that Invests in Ourselves
The benefits of gardening for both our mental and physical health are well recognised and documented. A 2017 meta-analysis of research provided “robust evidence that gardening can improve physical, psychological, and social health, which can, from a long-term perspective, alleviate and prevent various health issues facing today’s society”.
As gardeners we intrinsically recognise this, it’s the reason we love spending so much time in our gardens, connecting with nature.
We plan according to the seasons, mapping out each stage of our seasonal gardens. However as well as planning for our gardens we also need to embrace new innovation that helps us garden most effectively. As Michael explains…
“As gardeners we research and invest in the latest plants, seeds and materials that help our gardens thrive. But we also have to invest in innovation for ourselves, innovation that helps us to garden smarter and safer. Because by doing so we not only invest in our gardens, we invest in our health, our families and our future.”
