What is Rock Daisy?

Rock Daisy (Brachyscome multifida), also known as the Swan River Daisy or Cut Leaf Daisy, is a compact herbaceous perennial. It is part of the Asteraceae family and is native to Australia. Rock Daisy is a spreading ground cover to shrub that has fine dark green ferny foliage. They flower throughout the year with the major flushes occurring in Spring and Summer. Daisy like flowers appear above the foliage ranging in colours of mauve/purple, pink or white with a yellow center. Rock Daisy grows best in a full sun position but can tolerate part shade. They are hardy plants and will grow in most soil types. They tolerate light frosts and dry spells once established.

Benefits of Growing Rock Daisy

Rock Daisy are very easy to grow and requires little water once established. They are perfect for rockeries, cottage garden and mass plantings. Rock Daisy can also be used in hanging baskets, in borders and spilling over retaining walls.

They will tolerate most soil types however they prefer a free draining soil rich in organic matter. Mix through some broken down compost before planting.

Plant in full sun to part shade, 30-50cm apart with the plant crown at soil level.

Water until established then water well during dry periods.

Mulch to retain soil moisture and suppress weeds.

A light trim in Autumn will keep this plant neat and tidy

Remove spent flowers to encourage new ones.

If the leaves are consistently wet, powdery mildew can be a problem.
