Winter Ornamental 2020

Welcome to the third edition of our E-catalogues for our Winter 2020 season. This time round we are featuring a small part of our range of deciduous and ornamental trees, with quite a few more to be found under the trees category on our website.

Our Bare Rooted season is always exciting because trees form the backbone of our gardens. We can use trees to create seasonal highlights, to frame a view, to help protect buildings and provide free climate control, or to create that all important patch of shade for Summer.

There is a popular saying that ‘the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago and the next best time is now’. And Winter is definitely the very best time to plant your bare rooted trees because they are dormant and therefore less prone to stress. So long as their roots are not allowed to dry out these plants can stay in their suspended animation for several weeks, but ideally you would get them into the ground shortly after receiving your order. That way they have the rest of the winter to settle in and begin to grow the really fine roots that will sustain the foliage when spring and the warmer weather returns.

Soil preparation is fairly important for the best results from your bare rooted tree; it’s always best to dig over a fairly large area, both wide and deep, so the new roots have some soft going when they start to grow.
We hope you are enjoying our series of E-Catalogues, and stay tuned for the next edition coming to your inbox shortly.
