Carphalea kirondron 'Flaming Beauty'
I took these photos today, 18 March 2008. The traffic-stopper on the nature strip at Mapleton, South East Queensland, is smothered with red clusters except where the background hedge steals its aspect.
The plant leaning over the six foot fence is at Nambour, about 15km down the hill from Mapleton. I couldn't see the main part of the plant behind the fence but, even though it has not been pruned to shape like the Mapleton example, it is flowering like crazy despite its leggyness. Check out these thumbnails:

I planted some bird seed. A bird came up. Now I don't know what to feed it.

Fantastic pictures, Steve! My Mum grows it as a hedge in NQ - a stunning sight.

Bubba, apparently the trick to getting them to survive outside of the tropics is to have them in the ground and established before Winter sets in.

Isn't it magnificent! I have been looking for this plant for ages. Every nursery I have tried tell me that it is no longer on the grow list.
Does anyone know where one can be purchased? (yn)

Ros, I think so ...... I'd have to check whether they still have any. If you could PM me your email address I will let you know. Whereabouts are you though? If you're any less than sub tropical I'd be leaving it until Spring time.

Pam,
Thank you
I live in Mackay.
You have no idea how difficult it is to find this plant, so any leads you can give me will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again
Regards
Ros
