Flying black bugs with 2 white stripes

Postby jonny mac » Sun Dec 13, 2009 8:57 am

Hi all
Got yet another pest, as per the title, chewing away on my leafy rocket in coastal victoria. They are tiny and black with 2 thin white stripes on their rear section.
Cheers Jon

Are you sure they're not hover flies?

As a genuine black thumb Im not sure of anything when it comes to the garden!! But i just googled hover flies and they are different according to the pictures, the stripes run from front to back not sideways... In terms of shapes, they're bodies are more beetle like than fly.
The site ozanimals.com contains a large amount of identification pictures, doesnt show my little critter on it though!
