I love Delbard Roses. I saw 'Camile Pisarro' at a nursery yesterday, and it looked amazing. It reminded me of an abstract painting. Nahema smelled nice too, and reminded me of a David Austin rose called, 'Heritage'. I'll be adding those two this year.

I only have Sister Emmanuelle - and the scent is POWERFUL. A mixture of "lavender, aniseed, basil and fennel". According to the description, " Sister Emmanuelle ("God is with us") is an extraordinary 94 year old nun. Her frail appearance belies an indomitable will and enthusiasm, coupled with a heart literally bursting with love for the poor, uneducated and the destitute of this world." - Delbard. What a lovely description that is.

S.Emmanuelle started off with " intense mauve buds burst into generous, opulent double lilac pink rose blooms...vigorous and highly disease resistant." - Delbard.

Beautiful! (Y) And the blooms of Sister Emmanuelle tend to last long in a vase.

Michelle - I'm thinking of getting Windermere this year, what's your verdict on this rose? Is this rose really a creamy white colour?

Hi jimmy

Yes they last well in the vase and I love the way colour seems to go a deeper mauve as it ages.

I have had Windemere for just this season.
It have noticed that it has a light fruity scent .I have read that it was based on Heritage somehow
and the scent is very Heritage but less intense.

The colour of Windemere dependes on the light.
If it is full sun it seems less lemony and when it is inside you see more of a lemon colour.

I am just getting to know this rose but this is what I have noticed so far.

I love it.Its scent is really noticable on a warm windless night.

Here are a couple of pics:

Okay, you've all got me wanting some Delbard roses. Just one question - are they very thorny? I hate weeding around thorny roses.

No they are not! :D .

Paul Cezanne, Grand Nord La Jago Soeur Emmanuel are not thorny much at all.

Chartreuse de Parme, France Libre, Belle de Signeur are.

They are great roses.
Disease resitance is excellent although Paul Cezanne tends to BS a bit.

Today I went to a nursery and found a Camille Pissarro! I bought it for $31 dollars.... :(
But I just couldn't resist, CP looks strikingly beautiful and the flowers are like an abstract painting.

As I quote from the Delbard description tag:

"Not only does each flower look like a work of art, but the brush strokes on the petals create a kind of radiance, an intense dynamism, seeming to dance, capering around in a crazy carnival mood...."

That description is so TRUE!!!! (Y)

Michelle is quite right Crysanth, altho some are quite thorny, especially the very vigourous ones, eg Guy Savoy, La Jago, Henri Matisse. Just mulch thickly around them and that will keep weeds away. Always wear thick gloves and long sleeved tops when pruning or weeding around roses.

Here's a pic of my "harvest" of La Jago that I gave to a dear friend just now:
