Please note that Roses are supplied as dormant bare-rooted plants and are generally available from June through to mid-August.
Our Rose Catalogue is released in mid April and Roses can be pre-ordered for delivery during June.

Prior to the printed Catalogue's release, online customers can have a sneak preview of this year's range and get their orders in early. Although you still have to wait until June for delivery you get the best chance of obtaining the Rose varieties you want!
Please note that you need to place your pre-Catalogue Rose order separate from other items as your Roses will be delivered separately and a separate delivery charge will apply.

All the roses sold by Garden Express are bud grafted roses. They are supplied as bare rooted plants when dormant during the winter months. The roots are washed free of soil prior to being packed into bags filled with wet, clean packing medium to keep the roots moist and the plant fresh during transit. Roses establish well in their first year and continue to flourish becoming more hardy as years go by.

We recommend ordering as early as possible as popular varieties often sell out prior to the end of the season. Although Rose orders are despatched from early June, due to seasonal factors and the large number of orders to be sent, despatch of all outstanding orders can take several weeks so we appreciate your patience.

PREPARE FOR YOUR ROSE PLANTING:

  • Choose an open, sunny and well drained position.
  • Prepare your rose bed 4 weeks prior to planting.
  • A slightly acidic and medium texture soil is best.
  • If your soil is not ideal, improve it by digging in lots of organic material.
  • Spread out roots, place in the planting hole with the bud union approximately 5cm above the surface.
  • Fill in with soil and gently firm it down.
  • Water in well.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • Bare rooted roses can be kept in the bag for several weeks if kept moist and in a cool spot. To keep bare rooted roses longer they should be "heeled-in". Completely cover with soil and keep watered.
  • NEVER use general fertilisers at planting time, however slow release rose fertiliser tablets can be used at this time.
  • NEVER let the roots of your roses dry out at any stage of planting.

HINTS:

  • Roses need at least 5 hours of sun per day to produce a good quantity of flowers.
  • Roses in shaded areas are more liable to attacks from fungus diseases.
  • Movement of air around the bushes will help to reduce mildew and black spot but remember to protect from strong winds.
  • Plant climbers and rambling roses 40cm from fence or wall.

PLEASE NOTE - Orders with Roses, Calla Lilies or Liliums will be despatched from June onwards.
