| Avocado (Persea americana)
Attractive tree with
tasty and nutritious fruit. Avocados will grow from North Queensland to Southern
Victoria and even in Tasmania if planted in a protected position. We have
chosen four varieties that will tolerate both the warmer and cooler climates of
Australia.
Avocado varieties are categorised into A and B groups. One
variety is sufficient to produce enough fruit for the home garden, however by
planting a tree from both groups the harvest will be much greater. Avocados
begin to ripen once picked and may take up to 10 days to reach maturity.
